Continuing (permanent) position, Full-time 37.5 hours per week (1.0 FTE)
Au Mahi | What You Will Do
UC is investing in NZ's creative economy through building capability, facilities, and technology for the digital screen industry. In the first of its kind in Australasia, UC's new Digital Screen Campus will provide training for future leaders in film production, game development and cross-reality, helping Aotearoa New Zealand play a key role in the future of digital screen convergence. We are seeking a dynamic individual with academic and industry experience to contribute to the new Bachelor of Digital Screen (Honours), with a particular focus on Screen Sound (e.g. storytelling with sound, aesthetics and perceptual aspects of sound, expertise in digital audio technologies and workflows from planning and production to post).
You will work alongside the Executive Dean of Arts and the Digital Screen Programme Director to provide leadership into the degree in Screen Sound, and work to develop new courses and qualifications in your area of interest. You will also educate and prepare our students to excel in the digital screen industry, by teaching introductory, intermediate, and advanced classes and supervising senior projects in collaboration with industry partners.
You will have the opportunity to:

Mou | Who You Are
You will have experience of teaching and research in a tertiary education setting, and have experience of, or good links to, the screen sound industry. Ideally you will hold a research degree (MFA, PhD) focusing on an area of screen sound, although applications will be considered from candidates who may not have such a degree but have relevant equivalent industry experience. Your skills and experience will include:
Expert knowledge of subject area demonstrated by peer-recognition of creative outputs
Experience in a number of the following areas: foley recording/editing, surround mixing, location recording, sound design and editing
Professional standing in areas in screen sound, as appropriate to level of experience as evidenced by industry relationships
Proven experience at implementing effective teaching methods
Practical skills and knowledge that can be demonstrated/applied in a classroom and professional setting
The ability to articulate how sound contributes to the overall aesthetic and perceptual experience in different genres and media
Experience in a post-production studio environment with deep knowledge of Avid systems
Proficiency with audio for digital screen workflows, from planning and production to post-production
A clearly defined creative or research agenda related to audio and the digital screen
Knowledge of and growing competence in te reo Maori or other Pacific languages and customs, is an advantage

This role sits within the Academic Staff, Associated Staff and Academic Support Staff Collective Agreement and the following salary scale applies: Lecturer $89,645 - $108,144 p.a., Senior Lecturer $113,826 - $129,098 p.a.
