Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Applied Mathematics – University of AucklandFull-timeUoA Department Name: MathematicsAdvert Closing Date: 15/01/2020Campus: Auckland City CampusContract Type: PermanentPosition Number: 55565278Job Description The Department of Mathematics invites applications for two positions as Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Applied Mathematics – these are research and teaching positions equivalent to a tenure-track assistant professor in the US. The positions are open to researchers in any area of applied mathematics. The successful candidates will be expected to be collegial, constructive members of the mathematics department.
The successful applicant will be expected to:
Perform high-quality mathematics teaching/lecturing at undergraduate, postgraduate and PhD level, including service teaching to students with diverse mathematical backgrounds.Establish their own research portfolio that attracts external funding and graduate students. You will also collaborate with other researchers within and outside the University.Be well organised and self-motivated.Contribute to creating an environment which is safe, inclusive and accepting of diversity and difference.Perform administrative service roles for the Department of Mathematics and for the Faculty of Science.The successful applicant will ideally start in July 2020, though this may be subject to negotiation.
Skills and Experience Our ideal candidate will:
Hold a PhD in applied mathematics or equivalent.Have a track record of research publications in refereed journals.Have experience in teaching mathematics at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level.Have experience with organising research and teaching.Have had success in attracting external funding.Have evidence of active commitment to ensuring a high-quality learning experience for a diverse student body.About Us The Department of Mathematics, which is the largest Mathematics Department in New Zealand, offers a wide range of courses at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
