TE TARI WHAKAMATAU HINEKARO/ DEPARTMENT OF PSYCHOLOGY The Department of Psychology at the University of Otago (Te Tari Whakamatau Hinekaro o Otakou Whakaihu Waka) offers a three-year postgraduate clinical psychology training programme with an emphasis on the scientist-practitioner model, as well as cultural safety. The Department has demonstrated excellence in research and teaching with an emphasis on the development of student research skills. The ability to attract and supervise student researchers is critical for any applicant. The Department supports research programmes in diverse areas, including clinical, cognitive, developmental, health, social, cultural, and applied psychology, as well as neuroscience. The Department of Psychology is also home to the world-famous Dunedin Multidisciplinary Health and Development Study, which fosters connections within the University, across New Zealand, and internationally. Well-established links exist with the health-related services in the community and Otago Medical School (Te Kura Hauora o Otakou). Te Mahi/The Role Applications are invited for a Pukenga/Lecturer in the Department of Psychology. In this role, the successful candidate will contribute to the Department's excellent teaching and learning culture and to our diverse, national and international research profile, (Note for international applicants: Lecturer is equivalent to Assistant Professor in the North American system). Responsibilities include the following: Contributing to the research activities of the Department, including publishing in high-quality peer-reviewed journals, obtaining external funding support, and supervising research students Development of a research programme that is relevant to the communities of Aotearoa New Zealand including Maori as tangata whenua (the Indigenous peoples) Teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students, including developing new course content and teaching materials, participating in collaborative teaching activities, contributing to bicultural curriculum development, and assessing student performance Contributing to the effective and efficient administration of the Department and its responsibilities within the University and wider community Ka Pukeka me Ka Wheako/Skills and Experience The successful candidate must have the following skills and experience: Completed or nearly completed PhD with established research record in any area of clinical psychology. Expertise in the area of adult clinical intervention would be a particular strength, as would capacity for culturally sensitive and responsive practice Eligible for registration as a clinical psychologist in Aotearoa/New Zealand Outstanding record of research and teaching, or demonstrated potential for development of such Commitment to rigour, ethics, and cultural safety in research and teaching as well as collegiality and respect for diversity Commitment to the bicultural emphasis of clinical psychology training in Aotearoa/New Zealand as well as to the University's Maori Strategic Framework and Pacific Strategic Framework Any successful international applicant would be expected to develop such commitment.
