Position Title: Learning Centre Leader Responsible to: Deputy Principal – Curriculum Primary Function: To promote a culture of empowerment within our Learning Centre to enable learners to achieve their potential.
Allowances: 2 management units Key Performance Areas – Demonstrate belief in and commitment to the Rangi Ruru core values, following the code of conduct and supporting the Rangi Ruru Teaching and Learning philosophy.
– Display positive and appropriate communication and team skills and work co-operatively with others to achieve common goals for our learners.
– Willingly collaborate to make Rangi Ruru a healthy and safe environment, observing safe work practices and adhering to all school health and safety requirements.
– Carry out any additional duties and responsibilities as may reasonably be required to meet the demands of the school operation and activitie.
Key Tasks – Liaise with the enrolment staff and the Principal to meet with prospective new parents and students with learning needs.
– In consultation with the Learning Centre staff, Deans, teachers and Leaders of Faculty, identify those students needing additional support.
Plan support with the Learning Centre team, which includes best practice approaches.
– Consult and co-construct approaches of support with teachers.
– Meet with parents and students to write learner profiles for all students with identified special learning needs.
Distribute profiles to teachers at the beginning of each year and whenever profiles are amended or new profiles written.
Review these profiles annually.
– Ensure that up to date records of assessment data and the learning covered with each student are kept.
– Where appropriate, consult with the Learning Centre teachers about any student requiring further assessment or support from an agency outside the school.
Communicate with learners' parents/guardians.
– Liaise with outside agencies as needed, e.g, educational psychologists, Ministry of Education, Special Education Services.
– When possible, provide supervision and assistance to students working within the Learning Centre.
– Oversee applications to NZQA for Special Assessment Conditions (SACs).
– Expected to attend BYB Hui and Students Causing Academic Concern Hui – Arrange schedules of students using SACs for both internal and external examinations and class tests, arrange examinations assistants and communicate appropriate information to the students, parents and classroom teachers.
– Liaise with the Exam Centre Manager and with the Deputy Principal- Curriculum for all arrangements for the external examinations, and exam timetable for the internal examinations.
– Ensure that all teaching staff have professional development opportunities around the needs of diverse learners, e.g.
presentations at staff meetings, conversations with faculties and individual teachers.
Attend professional development opportunities as appropriate to ensure that knowledge of best practice in the assistance of students requiring extra support is kept up to date.
– Participate in your annual Professional Growth Cycle.
– Lead Learning Centre staff in their professional goals and reflective practice.
