St John's College Hamilton – Hamilton East, North IslandWe have three positions for a Learning Assistant / Kaiawhina Ako to support our students to lift their achievement. St John's College is a highly regarded Catholic secondary school with a roll of 925 young men. You'll join a friendly, professional team where you'll work alongside busy teachers to really make a difference for our students. We have an awesome, vibrant community here that values family spirit.Our ideal candidate will relate well to young men across a range of cultures. You will be highly motivated to establish relationships with students so they accept and seek your help, and you will need good literacy and numeracy skills. Applicants must be able to work constructively as part of our Learning Support Team.The hours are 25 per week, from 9.00am to 3.00pm Monday to Friday during term time only. The hourly rate will be in a range from $25-$29 depending on skills and experience. The successful applicant will be required to undergo a police vet to work in the education sector.Available PositionsPosition A - fixed term until 12 December 2025 initially but is likely to extend if external funding to support this student continues. We need a caring, practical person to assist an academically able Year 10 student who uses a motorized wheelchair. You will accompany this young man to mainstream classes, assist him with learning activities and personal care, and support his safety and wellbeing. In classes, you will work alongside other learners too.Position B - permanent position working in mainstream classes with a focus on supporting students. Occasionally you may work one on one to provide more intensive support.Position C - fixed term until 12 December 2025 working in mainstream classes with a focus on supporting students.
