Learn to Swim Instructor | Moana-Nui-A-Kiwa Pool and Leisure Centre (Mangere)
Here at Auckland Council, our leisure centres play a key role in achieving our goal of making Auckland the most active city in the world. We're looking for Learn to Swim Instructors to join our Moana-Nui-A-Kiwa Pool and Leisure Centre team to help achieve that goal!
This is a fantastic job where you don't need any formal qualifications or experience to apply – just a passion to work with our diverse community while also making a difference! We'll provide the training you need to succeed in the role.
Day-to-day you could expect to work on:
Teaching people the basic principles of how to swim (we'll teach you how to do this!)Maintaining a fun, caring and safe environment for customers and visitorsBeing part of an amazing team serving your local communityWe have a permanent part-time position available at our centre. You will need to be available on weekdays from 3:15pm till 6:30pm and weekends from 8:45am till 1:30pm. You will likely be working at least 1 weekday and 1 weekend shift. Availability to work on the weekend is essential.
You will be a great swimmer and instructor, have a love of water, exceptional customer service skills, and be able to communicate well with members of the public. Previous experience working with children would be beneficial.
If you do have a recognised swim teacher qualification or previous experience as a Swimming Instructor, that'd be fantastic. However, we will provide full, comprehensive training that you need to excel in the job.
If you do not have a recognised swim teacher qualification, e.g. AUSTSWIM, you will be required to attend the following training dates below and Monday to Friday, 8am-4pm:
13th - 23rd January 2025To be considered for this role, you must also be willing to complete First Aid training.
Our successful candidate will be comfortable in the water and be able to:
Swim 20 metres freestyleTread water for 3 minutesAs a Learn to Swim Instructor, you'll have free access to our facilities, hours that provide work and life balance, and above all else a fun, supportive team. You will also have the satisfaction of knowing the work you do is important and impactful, especially the pride and joy you will get from watching someone gain the confidence that comes from learning how to swim.
We strongly encourage up-skilling and training and as such once you are hired you will have the opportunity to pick up extra hours in a variety of roles such as Lifeguard, Customer Service Rep, Recreation Assistant and more.

Pay rate: $27.80 per hour Auckland Council is committed to the protection and well-being of children.
