Leader - Compliance at Land Information New Zealand, WellingtonThe Regulatory Practice and Delivery group (RPD) brings together a range of regulators delivering across multiple regulatory systems encompassing the Registrar-General of Land, Valuer-General, Surveyor-General, and the Commissioner of Crown Lands, and includes Assessment and Compliance functions.
RPD has stewardship responsibilities for four regulatory systems: Crown Land, Overseas Investment, Property Information and Property Rights.
The Leader Compliance, as a member of the RPD Leadership Team, leads the work of the Compliance team to detect, investigate and enforce non-compliance in our regulatory systems.
The team also has a role in ensuring a consistent regulatory approach and practices for Toitu Te Whenua.
The Leader Compliance has responsibility for the overall delivery, strategic direction, and outcomes of the Compliance team.
This includes maintaining awareness and knowledge of regulatory compliance best practice and using this to help inform and develop compliance strategy for Toitu Te Whenua.
You'll be accountable for leading the people and the work across your areas of responsibility in line with SPE's and customer expectations.
You'll ensure that there are clear priorities and deliverables aligned to our Kaupapa and work programme and empower your people to manage the delivery of their work in line with that direction.
This Wellington based role leads a team of approximately nine Customer Regulatory Specialists, supporting their wellbeing, performance, and professional development.
Our Compliance team also works closely with our Legal team, and you'll work closely with the Leader Legal as a work leader for two solicitors.
This role will continue to build on the work started to establish the Compliance function, which in 2023 brought together our enforcement and intelligence functions that were previously focused only on overseas investment.
Critical to the success in this role will be the expansion of the compliance function across our other regulatory systems.
Please note that candidates who are not able to obtain Top Secret security clearance cannot be considered for this role.
You must also have:
Extensive experience leading a group of technical experts within a government regulatory system, preferably with a compliance focusA passion for making a positive and sustainable difference through engaging and partnering with the business, customers and stakeholders to achieve positive outcomesStrong interpersonal skills and the ability to influenceAbility to easily convey complex and technical information to those who are not familiar with the technical aspectsExceptional strategic thinking skillsAbility to anticipate both challenges and opportunitiesAbility to develop and implement new processes, systems, and frameworksAlthough the Leader Compliance role does not hold a practicing certificate, a legal qualification and experience would be advantageous.
The expected appointing range for this role is: $175,000 – $190,000 (depending on experience)
