Lead Heavy Equipment Mechanic

PRIMARY FUNCTION
Heavy Equipment Mechanic repairs, rebuilds, or overhauls major assemblies of internal combustion automobiles, Heavy Equipment, Fire Trucks, Dump Trucks or tractors. Work involves most of the following:

Diagnosing the source of trouble and determining the extent of repairs required;
Replacing worn or broken parts such as piston rings, bearings, or other engine parts;
Grinding and adjusting valves;
Rebuilding carburetors;
Replacing transmissions;
Repairing fuel injection, lighting, and ignition systems;
Maintaining hydraulic systems.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
In general, the work of the Heavy Equipment Mechanic requires rounded training and experience usually acquired through a formal apprenticeship or equivalent.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
No direct supervisory responsibilities. However, the position does assign work orders and prioritize work to appropriate staff.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

Heavy Equipment and Fire Truck Maintenance.
Repair/Replace tires.
Troubleshooting electrical, hydraulic, fuel delivery system, engine diagnostics.
Must be able to communicate clearly with customers.

QUALIFICATIONS

Must have 4 years' experience.
Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
Must have a current driver's license.
Must be able to pass a background check to work on Base.
