PRIMARY FUNCTION
Heavy Equipment Mechanic repairs, rebuilds, or overhauls major assemblies of internal combustion automobiles, Heavy Equipment, Fire Trucks, Dump Trucks, or tractors. Work involves most of the following:
Diagnosing the source of trouble and determining the extent of repairs required;
Replacing worn or broken parts such as piston rings, bearings, or other engine parts;
Grinding and adjusting valves;
Rebuilding carburetors;
Replacing transmissions;
Repairing fuel injection, lighting, and ignition systems;
Working on hydraulic systems.
In general, the work of the Heavy Equipment Mechanic requires rounded training and experience usually acquired through a formal apprenticeship or equivalent.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
No direct supervisory responsibilities. However, position does assign work orders and prioritize work to appropriate staff.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
Heavy Equipment and Fire Truck Maintenance.
Repair/Replace tires.
Troubleshooting electrical, hydraulic, fuel delivery system, engine diagnostics.
Must be able to communicate clearly with customers.
QUALIFICATIONS
Must have 4 years' experience.
Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
Must have a current driver's license.
Must be able to pass a background check to work on Base.
