We are looking for a highly experienced consenting specialist to join the Strategy, Policy and Regulation team as a Lead Consenting Advisor. This is a relatively new role operating at a principal level which provides an exceptional opportunity to lead and shape how we deliver on our consenting responsibilities. You will also be part of the wider Strategy, Policy and Regulation leadership team. The role can be based out of our Wellington or Masterton office.
About the role Your experience, technical proficiencies and relationship management competencies will enable you to advise, guide and support the manager and members of the Environmental Regulation team on a diverse range of consenting related matters. We are particularly looking for someone with vast experience in RMA resource consenting and especially with dealing with complex notified consenting processes.
You will identify opportunities to enhance our current consenting practice, processes and systems and develop and implement projects which achieve the desired outcomes. Your experience will enable you to successfully lead and coordinate complicated consenting projects and interpret and apply complex policy and legislative requirements. The ability to develop and foster effective working relationships with stakeholders will be critical in achieving successful outcomes in this role.
Skills and experience required: To succeed in this role, you will have:
Demonstrated in-depth experience and understanding of the Resource Management Act 1991 (RMA) and related legislation.Relevant tertiary study and in-depth experience (5+ years) at senior advisory level.Proven experience in the provision of detailed technical advice on the RMA and its application in relation to consents.Strategic thinking ability, focusing on outcomes rather than process output achievement.Experience in mentoring and developing staff on consenting, coaching in the technical areas of this work.Skills in building capability at a team and individual level and able to influence positive cultural change.Understanding and application of Maori perspectives on environmental regulation as well as the ability to make decisions that reflect dual knowledge systems, perspectives and priorities.Ability to understand and adhere to tikanga, including understanding and application of matauranga Maori and te ao Maori principles in line with Greater Wellington's Maori Capability Framework.About Greater Wellington: Every day we put all our energy into protecting and enhancing our region. The salary ranges for this position, inclusive of all benefits, is: $96,927 - $145,390 with a mid-point of $121,159. Starting remuneration will depend on the skills and experience of the successful applicant.
