ABOUT ENGINEERING AT ROCKET LAB: Engineering is at the heart of Rocket Lab. WHAT YOU'LL GET TO DO: A launch safety operator is responsible for supporting a comprehensive launch capability for Rocket Lab that ensures public and staff safety, and is robust, flexible, and maximises launch availability. The role is responsible for launch operations, procedure development, planning, system specification, maintenance and development, technical writing, producing licensing material and maintaining compliance, including establishing and maintaining safety systems and incident management readiness. The role works as part of a diverse crew preparing for and during launch and facility operations. The role interacts with many external stakeholders - public, commercial, and government agencies - understanding their constraints and motivations, and maximises cooperation through engagement and deft application of available authority.
YOU'LL BRING THESE QUALIFICATIONS: A minimum of 5 years' experience in a marine or port traffic management, air traffic control, naval surveillance and management, or role demonstrating equivalent capabilities and experience
Proven leadership experience with the ability to manage and motivate a team
Demonstrated ability to manage a wide variety of first- and third-party vessel, aircraft, or equivalent traffic movements over a wide area
Experience in high-pressure, time critical public safety management environments
Demonstrated experience delivering results in fast-paced commercial projects
Excellent organizational and communication skills, both written and oral, including a demonstrated ability to present complex information in a clear and concise manner
THESE QUALIFICATIONS WOULD BE NICE TO HAVE: Tertiary qualifications in an engineering or related technical discipline, or equivalent experience
Tertiary qualifications in safety and/or risk management
New Zealand maritime radio, GPS, and radar operator certificates or equivalent
