The Woodburn Police Department is seeking qualified Lateral Police Officers to perform a variety of law enforcement duties, including responding to and investigating incidents, patrolling assigned areas, enforcing laws and ordinances, making arrests, preserving crime scene evidence, writing reports, and conducting community policing in culturally diverse neighborhoods. Officers may also be assigned to specialized units or teams within the department.

Members of the Woodburn Police Department work closely with the community, offering leadership and education alongside enforcement. Officers are provided with the necessary tools and training to serve the community effectively, and many members take on leadership roles in both law enforcement and community organizations.

Premium pay upon completion of Field Training Evaluation Program (FTEP)

Bilingual pay upon certification

Up to $1,500 reimbursement for moving expenses for relocation of 50+ miles

Employment incentive ranging from $5,485 to $10,101 (based on years of service and certification status), paid in three equal installments upon successful completion of probation

Salary Information:
$34.28 – $53.52 hourly, subject to a 5% increase upon completion of recent bargaining agreements.

The Woodburn Police Department works closely with the culturally diverse community of Woodburn. Officers are equipped with advanced tools and training, ensuring they are effective in their service. Many department members are leaders both within law enforcement and in community organizations.

Job Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:

Employed for a minimum of two years as a full-time sworn officer at a municipal, county, state, or federal law enforcement agency within the last two years prior to appointment.

Possess a current Police Basic Certification from the Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST) or an equivalent certification from another state.

Must pass physical fitness testing, physical/vision, hearing, psychological examinations, and drug testing.

Pass a comprehensive background investigation.

Ability to work overtime and a variety of 24-hour rotating shifts, including holidays and weekends.

Education: High school diploma or G.E.D.

Certifications/Licenses: Valid Oregon class C driver's license or equivalent and an acceptable driving record.

Preferred Qualifications:

Bilingual language skills in Spanish/English or Russian/English.

Post-secondary education or degree in criminal justice, public/business administration, sociology, psychology, or a related field.

Selection Process:
Applications are reviewed as they are submitted, and interviews are scheduled accordingly. After a conditional job offer, applicants must pass an extensive background investigation, medical and psychological assessments, and drug testing. Lateral Police Officers are subject to a 12-month probationary period. Additional incentives may be available depending on assignment.
