Application Period: New applications for entry-level police officers will be accepted starting January 2025.
Salary:
Full Salary Range (DOE): $76,211 to $108,596 annually.
Lateral entry up to $108,596 is available for Colorado POST-certified officers, depending on years of experience.
A $10,000 hiring bonus is available for applicants with Colorado POST certification and two years of lateral police experience in Colorado.
Expedited hiring process available; lateral hires may be onboarded within two months, depending on application date.

Job Requirements
Duties & Responsibilities:
Patrol designated areas by foot, bicycle, or radio-equipped vehicle.
Conduct complex investigations, enforce traffic and criminal laws, and ensure public safety.
Engage with diverse community groups, using problem-solving skills to address local concerns.
Collaborate with other department staff and public or private agencies to solve community issues.
Prepare detailed reports, interpret legal codes, and testify professionally in court.
Use computer systems for reports, communication, and information retrieval.
Maintain regular and reliable attendance and adhere to department policies and safety standards.
Minimum Qualifications:
Must be at least 21 years old at the time of hire.
Sixty (60) accredited college credit hours with a grade of C or better, OR an honorable discharge from active U.S. military duty, OR two years of experience as a police officer equivalent to municipal police work.
Ability to perform the physical functions required, including meeting vision and hearing standards.
Applicants with disabilities defined by the ADA may be eligible for individualized testing or reasonable accommodations.
Physical Ability Testing (PAT):
The PAT includes events like a serpentine run, jump, stair climb, window climb, 150-pound dummy drag, and 50-pound weight lift. It must be completed in 2 minutes and 45 seconds or less.
Background Requirements:
Applicants must demonstrate honesty, integrity, and sound judgment through a thorough background check, including a review of criminal history, driving record, and previous substance use. A polygraph and/or Computer Voice Stress Analyzer may be used for verification. Prior to employment, candidates must pass drug, medical, and psychological examinations.
Desired Qualifications:
A four-year degree from an accredited institution.
Bilingual skills in English/Spanish or English/Southeast Asian languages.
Knowledge of the Boulder community and Colorado POST certification.
Skills in using semi-automatic firearms and patrol rifles.
Preference may be given to candidates residing in-state.
Working Conditions:
Requires frequent lifting (up to 50 pounds), occasional lifting (over 100 pounds), and long periods of walking, standing, and sitting. Frequent use of hands for fine manipulation and use of feet for vehicle control. May involve outdoor work in various weather conditions and continuous exposure to background noise. Must maintain physical training requirements and work under stress with demanding deadlines and changing priorities.
Work Environment:
Uses specialized policing equipment, operates police vehicles, and utilizes standard office technology such as computers and cameras.
