Position Overview:The Seattle Police Department is hiring experienced law enforcement officers for lateral entry positions. The department values diversity and is an equal opportunity employer. A $30,000 hiring bonus is offered to successful candidates.

Frontline National Law Enforcement Exam
Public Safety Self-Assessment (Parts 1 & 2)
Exams must be scheduled and completed by October 15, 2024 through the National Testing Network (NTN). Candidates can transfer any current NTN scores earned between October 30, 2023, and October 15, 2024, at no cost.
Lateral Entry Oral Board: Candidates who pass the exam will be invited to a virtual oral board interview on October 26, 2024 (or earlier if available).Background Investigation: Following the oral board, candidates will be required to submit personal history information for a thorough background check.Medical, Psychological, and Polygraph Exams: Candidates will undergo a medical evaluation (including drug screening, vision, hearing tests, and stress EKG) and a psychological exam.Final Offer of Employment: Candidates who successfully pass all steps will receive a formal offer from the Seattle Police Department.
Qualifications:Age: Must be at least 20.5 years old.Citizenship: U.S. citizen, legal permanent resident, or DACA recipient.Education: High school diploma or GED.Experience: Two years of post-academy experience as a certified law enforcement officer with full police powers in a municipal, county, or state agency within the last 36 months.Driver's License: Valid Washington State driver's license required prior to hire.
Drug Use Standards:Candidates must meet the following standards prior to the exam date:
No marijuana use within 12 months.
No cocaine, crack, club drugs, hallucinogens, or other specified drugs within the last five years.
No illegal drug use while employed in a criminal justice capacity.
No manufacturing or cultivating illegal drugs.
Traffic Record & Criminal History:A thorough review of driving and criminal records will be conducted. Disqualifying factors include:
DWI, reckless driving, or hit and run offenses.
Felony convictions or misdemeanor convictions while employed in law enforcement.
Domestic violence convictions.
Job Responsibilities:Patrol city streets, respond to emergencies, and protect people and property.Investigate crimes, collect evidence, and conduct arrests.Prepare reports, render aid, and transport individuals in custody.Provide court testimony when required.Shift work, including nights, weekends, and holidays, is required.
