Mo te tunga | About the role The Land Management Officer - Hill Country role will work with our hill country farmers to promote sustainable land management and is part of the wider Land Services team responsible for implementing the Council's sustainable land management programmes. Advisory and extension services are provided to land users on an individual property basis, without charge, and our innovative, well-resourced and widely-accepted environmental enhancement programmes are in strong demand. This role sits within the Hill Country team and you will receive support from the Hill Country Team Leader and the wider Land Management section. You will be someone who has studied in a relevant field such as natural resource management, forestry, soil conservation, agriculture or a similar field but you will also be someone who enjoys sharing your knowledge to influence positive outcomes for our environment. Being a superb communicator you are also versatile and resourceful in any task or project you are responsible for. As we like to set our people up for success so you'll also be a leading applicant if you have: The ability to foster community and individual land user understanding of the need to use land resources in a sustainable manner A sound practical knowledge of rural activities that will enable you to develop a rapport with land users Solid organisational skills where you enjoy prioritising your work and planning ahead Good health and physical fitness as your work is conducted in all weather and on remote, steep terrain Ability or an aptitude to use All Terrain Vehicle (quad bike) or Light Utility Vehicle (side-by-side) on-farm A strong digital ability with a good level of competency in various technology suites, including Microsoft and GIS An understanding of the Resource Management Act 1991 and/or National Policy Statement for Freshwater 2020.
