Labour inspectors are responsible for ensuring that employers are compliant with legislative provisions relating to the payment of the minimum wage, holiday and leave entitlements, written employment agreements, and mandatory record keeping requirements.
This role will be focused on ensuring employers are compliant with both employment standards and Immigration policy within the Recognised Seasonal Employer scheme.
The scheme responds to New Zealand labour market shortages in the horticulture and viticulture industries by allowing the recruitment of short-term migrant labour from the Pacific.
As a Labour Inspector, you will be:
Proactively assessing compliance with employment standards and Immigration policy
Educating and working with employers to ensure they are meeting all requirements
Working with employee representatives and Pacific Liaison Officers to understand issues affecting employees
Working collaboratively with other regulators
Investigating complaints involving alleged breaches of the standards
Holding employers to account using enforcement

Skills and Experience Required
A strong interest in public service and community wellbeing
Exceptional people skills with the ability to build relationships with a wide range of people and cultures
Interest and/or study towards developing a career in employment relations
Ability to ask the right questions to quickly obtain the information required from employers and employees
Ability to interpret and apply legislation to different workplace scenarios
Previous experience in an analytical, regulatory, or compliance role (desirable)
New Zealand Certificate in Regulatory Compliance – Level 3 (desirable)
Hold a current full New Zealand driver's license (required)
Be a New Zealand Citizen or Permanent Resident (required)
