We are currently seeking Laboratory Technicians to join our Auckland Microbiology Department. We have both permanent full-time and fixed-term options available. The core functions of the roles we have to fill are to assist in the daily operation of our Microbiology department, primarily in the Sample Reception area. Depending on the position, these functions would include: Perform routine data entry of customer sample submissions into our Laboratory Information System (LIMs). Assist with manual handling and logistics for the purchasing and procurement of laboratory supplies. Working in the test processing areas, to receive, prepare and carry out accurate microbiological analysis of food, dairy, meat and environmental samples as required by our customers and accreditation bodies. Minimum Requirements: Tertiary qualification in a scientific discipline or equivalent experience is preferred, but not required. As these positions are entry level, this is suitable for recent graduates or someone with minimal formal qualifications. Attributes: Attention to detail while performing routine or repetitive tasks. Physically fit, as these roles do involve the physical handling of test material/media, with most tasks requiring technicians to be on their feet. Able to take initiative and work in a fair and responsible way. Reliable and flexible, with the ability to work to a roster that may include morning/evening timings, and/or at least one weekend day per week. Good time management skills are a must, in order to keep up with the pace of a busy production environment. Act with integrity at all times. Willing to learn and have a "can-do attitude". Able to follow instructions, either verbally directed or from scientific resources and SOPs. Can communicate clearly and effectively across multiple teams.
