COLAS is seeking a permanent Laboratory Technician in our expanding asphalt laboratory reporting to the Laboratory Supervisor. We are looking for an enthusiastic candidate to work in a laboratory that tests asphalt road surfacing material and has ambition to expand your testing capabilities into the field. All required training will be provided on all laboratory test methods, including training in the laboratories ISO 17025 management system and the laboratory information management system. This role is open to a graduate candidate, provided you can demonstrate your ability and willingness to progress in the laboratory.
The Laboratory Technician is primarily responsible for testing asphalt made at the asphalt plant. The plant can operate up to 12 hours a day plus occasional weekend and night work. For the right candidate with outside of work commitments i.e. family, COLAS would be willing to be flexible with working hours to coincide with testing needs as well as coordinate other laboratory staff around these needs.

What are we looking for?
Formal Degree or Diploma in Sciences or Engineering and/or Laboratory Experience
Proven written and verbal communication skills
Fully English proficient
Good organisational skills and the ability to prioritise deadlines
Experience working in a laboratory in any industry or willingness and skill to want to work in a roading laboratory
Ability to report and analyse laboratory test results in Excel and communicate these results to senior management in a written/ verbal format.
Flexibility with occasional changes to start and finish times and occasional weekend work. COLAS will aim to organise work times that do not conflict with personal commitments by coordinating with the laboratory staff
Willingness and ability to do physical work i.e. lifting asphalt samples less than 15kg and sometimes standing most of the day
Willingness and ability to occasionally work nightshift
Ability to travel to Australia for COLAS training for one week per year if required and conferences outside of Auckland
A full New Zealand class 1 drivers license
A New Zealand Citizen/Resident/ Unrestricted Work Visa
