Permanent Position, Secondary Term Time Only

We are seeking to employ a lead laboratory technician to work alongside our part-time laboratory technician in our Science Faculty. This is a permanent part-time position for 35 hours per week, term time only.
Conditions of employment are in accordance with the Support Staff in Schools Collective agreement, and this position has been graded as Grade 2.
The position will include tasks such as:
Collaboration with the Laboratory Technician and Science Faculty
Preparing equipment for practical tests and internal assessments
Delivering chemicals and equipment to laboratories or designated areas
Checking and updating the risk assessment ordering system
Managing hazardous substances appropriately, including disposal
Regular safety audits of the technicians' area and chemical store
Inventory checking of equipment and resources, including term stocktaking for restocking
Assisting with the use and maintenance of equipment
Cleaning and maintaining equipment and glassware
Preparing chemicals and solutions
Preparing and maintaining standard sets of materials and equipment
Assisting Teaching Staff in class when required
Ordering goods and checking deliveries received against invoices
Attending field trips when required
The successful applicant will have:
A passion for science
A suitable qualification and experience in a laboratory
An interest in working with young people
The ability to work both independently and as part of a team
Strong communication and interpersonal skills – verbal and written
Planning and organisational skills to meet deadlines
