We're looking for a Laboratory Assistant to join us in our Shared Services team. If you think it could be you, let's talk.

What does a day in this job look like?
Based in Hamilton at the Council's accredited laboratory, our Sampling and Analysis team provide sampling and analytical services to multiple councils in the Waikato Sub-Region. The team undertakes water sampling, equipment calibration and maintenance, and physical, chemical and biological testing of natural, treated and waste waters.

As well as learning and performing sampling, testing and calibration methods, you will have the opportunity to participate in the development of standard operating procedures and make recommendations for improvement, and help the team maintain its IANZ accredited sampling and testing scope.

Hours of work are between 7.00am - 5.00pm Monday to Friday, usually 7.30am - 4.00pm. On rare occasions may be required to assist with work on public holidays, weekends and on-call duties.

This job is for you if you:

Are familiar with calibration and maintenance of laboratory testing equipment.

Can use laboratory computer systems, adopt new technologies and recommend improvements.

Have a strong eye for detail, able to keep clear records and follow documented methods.

Build positive working relationships and are a clear communicator.

Bring a can-do attitude with a solution-focused approach to challenges.

Skills and experience we are seeking:

Diploma in Science or equivalent experience.

Previous experience in a laboratory.

A current and clean full driver's license (class 1).

What's the salary?
Salary from $58,000 per annum which is negotiable based on skills and experience.
