Kaiwhakahaere Matua / Chief Executive

The Kaiwhakahaere Matua is the organisational leader, able to inspire and innovate. S/he reflects organisational values, leads the kaupapa, holds the mana of the organisation and shapes organisational culture and teamwork to deliver a high-quality programme.The Kaiwhakahaere Matua will support the development of the strategic plan, implement policies and oversee operations. S/he will work alongside a small team of committed and talented permanent staff; and part-time and contracted tutors. S/he will manage organisational risks, ensure compliance with relevant laws, report regularly to the board, and represent Sistema Aotearoa in the community and among stakeholders.Sistema Aotearoa recognises the uniqueness of Tamaki Makaurau founded on te Tiriti o Waitangi and shaped over generations by mana whenua and matawaka. Our leader, as with all roles in Sistema Aotearoa, is expected to be cognisant of the unique space that we operate in and seek opportunities to engage with diverse communities across Tamaki Makaurau and the wider motu.The position requires a high degree of sensitivity to cultural context and would ideally suit a musician with experience in working with young people of the area and/or with experience of the El Sistema philosophy.
