An opportunity for you to use your extensive knowledge of te ao Maori to support Te Papa and Maori in relationships, engagement and partnership and provide opportunities to actively connect taonga and their people.
In this role you will be working as part of the Nga Manu Atarau directorate, whose purpose is to lead and drive the development and strengthening of te reo me nga tikanga, te ao Maori, and Te Papa's ability to meet its Tiriti o Waitangi obligations and legislative mandate. The directorate is dedicated to the vision of Te Papa as he whare taonga tumu tiriti, kei reira te whakpumautanga o te katoa ki te Tiriti o Waitangi a, ka whakamahia e te Maori te tino rangatiratanga. A dedicated team seeking to make authentic and lasting changes in the way museums and iwi collaborate, interact and share responsibility for caring for taonga. You will join the directorate as part of the Iwi Relationships Team whanau.
As Kaitohutohu Rautaki-a-Iwi Strategic Advisor Iwi Relationships you will act as an advocate for iwi within Te Papa, and an advocate for Te Papa with iwi, while exemplifying manaakitanga, and seeking opportunities to enhance engagement and interactions between Te Papa and Maori. As one of three Advisors, this role specifically will be at the interface of matauranga Maori and science, looking for partnership opportunities in the natural environment for Maori and Te Papa and also by leading the maramataka and Matariki kaupapa for the team.
What we are looking for: Someone who has meaningful and active relationships with Maori working in and for te taiao and experience engaging with iwi and Maori organisations.Proven ability to manage and deliver complex iwi or kaupapa Maori projects.Exceptional communication and relationship building skills, including demonstrated experience in consultation and negotiation.Knowledge of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its implementation.You will be able to see the opportunity of the Te Papa natural environment and taonga collections and maramataka Maori programme connecting with Maori tohunga, matanga, practitioners, and communities to unlock and revitalise practice, Maori science and research and our connection to the natural world. This is a full-time permanent role joining our Iwi Relationships Team whanau with some scope for flexible work and working from home.
Salary band: $79,299 - $94,167
