Mo tenei turanga mahi About this role Join our team as a Senior Advisor / Advisor to help the team lead expert and best-practice advice across EMA and CCMRE, on incorporating te ao Maori perspectives and Maori rights and interests' considerations into policy development and decision-making.
The roles includes: Providing expert advice and support to policy teams across the organisation to understand how their policy proposals and work programmes interact with Maori rights and interests and obligations under the Treaty of Waitangi.
Ensuring Maori rights and interests and obligations under the Treaty of Waitangi are an appropriate consideration in policy decision-making and advice.
Where needed, developing policy advice for ministers focused on Maori rights and interests in proposals.
Supporting consistency and quality in Treaty Impact Analysis and other tools or processes that support the above functions.
Where appropriate, progressing specific policy advice that progresses Maori rights and interests in climate and environmental matters (for example, Maori rights and interests in freshwater).
Key deliverables are outlined in the attached position description.
Nga pukenga me nga wheako Skills and experience In-depth knowledge of: Te Tiriti o Waitangi; Te Ao Maori perspectives and Maori rights and interests and how they apply in policy design; the Maori Crown relationship context.
Demonstrated understanding of Treaty settlements, the Treaty settlement process and the historical context of settlements.
Demonstrated ability to apply te ao Maori perspectives and knowledge of Maori rights and interests into policy development and analysis, and other written material and thinking.
Experience in engaging with Maori.
A strong understanding of the machinery of government and experience in policy development, along with excellent written and oral communication skills, and well-developed policy analysis skills.
Ability to liaise and collaborate with Treaty partners, and other policy and subject matter experts.
Proven experience in writing high-quality briefing papers or other material to support Ministers / senior-leaders, including coordinating and working through feedback from different sources.
Experience or expertise in any of the following would be beneficial: climate change or adaptation policy; RMA or regulatory policy.
In-depth knowledge of the following would be beneficial (but not essential): Takutai Moana and other customary rights and interests.
Whanuitanga Utu a-Tau Salary range for these roles are from: Senior Advisor: $108,976 to $132,277 p/a.
Advisor: $79,598 to $96,372 p/a.
Appointment within this range will be based on skills and experience.
