An exciting opportunity exists for an enthusiastic and passionate person to join our Whakaora Kai team as a Kairuruku Pataka (Warehouse Coordinator) based in Whangarei.
About Us Northland food rescue organisation Whakaora Kai is a subsidiary of 155 Whare Awhina.
We are on a mission to rescue quality food destined for landfill and redistribute it to communities across Taitokerau Northland.
With a central hub in Whangarei and additional sites in Moerewa and Kaikohe, our work is guided by the values of manaakitanga, kotahitanga, and whakawhanaungatanga, ensuring the wellbeing of both our people and the environment.
We are looking for a passionate and organised Kairuruku Pataka (Warehouse Coordinator) to lead the collection, storage, and distribution of kai (food).
This permanent position offers 32.5 hours per week and will see you working closely with suppliers, coordinating volunteers, and ensuring the smooth running of our warehouse operations.
About You You are someone who thrives in a dynamic and community-driven environment.
With excellent communication and relationship-building skills, you can confidently engage with suppliers and volunteers alike.
You are organised, proactive, and able to juggle multiple tasks while maintaining attention to detail.
Ideally, you have a strong understanding of te reo Maori and tikanga Maori, and you bring a mana-enhancing approach to everything you do.
A full driver's licence is essential, and warehousing or forklift experience is a bonus.
Key Responsibilities Foster and maintain strong relationships with food suppliers and community organisations.
Coordinate and support volunteers, ensuring they understand their roles and responsibilities.
Oversee the safe and efficient collection, storage, and timely distribution of kai.
Maintain accurate inventory, perform stock checks, and handle administrative duties.
Ensure the cleanliness and safety of the warehouse and equipment.
We are looking for someone who is: A people person who builds positive relationships with ease.
Reliable and able to manage time and workloads effectively.
Physically fit, able to lift up to 16kg, and committed to health and safety practices.
A team player who can also work independently and take initiative.
Passionate about reducing food waste and supporting local communities.
The successful applicant will have: A New Zealand full license Training and experience in warehouse environments Comfortable with data entry and basic administration tasks.
