Details of the offer

Kaipatiki Project is looking for our new Kaihautu - Chief Executive.

Based in Auckland's North, Kaipatiki Project is an innovative EcoHub, growing a sustainable future for people and nature. We do this by empowering people, inspiring connection with nature and enabling sustainable living. As an organisation, we are looking for a leader who is aligned with our values:

Manaakitanga - We seek to encourage and uplift all those we welcome and work with.

Whanaungatanga - We nurture relationships and reciprocal connections that build belonging to community and place.

Kaitiakitanga - We continue to develop shared caring for and responsibility to our local places.

Along with our regular volunteers, we run a thriving native plant nursery, facilitate forest, stream & estuary regeneration, and promote zero waste and local food initiatives.

We have steadily grown over the years, and as Auckland's North only EcoHub, we continue to inspire communities to regenerate local bush reserves and live sustainably.

Our kaupapa is rooted in a community-led approach, embracing te ao Maori and matauranga iwi/hapu, while promoting chemical-free practices and a whole-system approach to environmental stewardship.

Our Kaihautu will lead, inspire, and manaaki our high-performance team with dynamic and creative ways of delivering on our vision.

Some of your responsibilities will include working with the Lead Team to:

Collaborate and partner to successfully deliver tangible outcomes for the environment and people.

Proactively engage with Manawhenua in ways that respect and recognise their role as Kaitiaki.

Proactively engage with the Maori community and our diverse communities of place.

Uphold the work of Kaipatiki Project so it is seen as a leading example of innovation in Aotearoa.

Ensure funders' expectations are met or exceeded to achieve the work programme.

Generate and secure diverse income streams, including self-generated activities.

Create a team environment where people are inspired, engaged and empowered, and learning is encouraged from challenges and experimentation.

Drive the development and execution of innovative practice to achieve systems change locally, regionally, and nationally.

Lead and develop a framework for the organisation, supporting and promoting the development of staff confidence, capability and safe practice across te reo Maori, tikanga, te ao Maori, and te Tiriti o Waitangi so everyone can contribute to our Te Tiriti responsiveness journey.

You will be able to demonstrate:

People leadership experience and strong management skills.

Good financial literacy to drive the creation and implementation of an annual Business Plan that demonstrates how our Strategy will be implemented.

Effective management of the organisation's budget and delivery to achieve agreed milestones.

A passion for the environment.

Strategic and political acumen. Knowledge of current affairs relating to the environmental sector.

Practical experience of social (not-for) profits and the NGO sector.

Excellent networking skills and potentially existing contacts that would add value.

Ability to connect with people from all types of backgrounds and a high duty of care.

Cultural competency – knowledge of and understanding of working with Te Ao Maori.

Term:

Permanent position (30 hours per week) based at our Ecohub in Birkdale. Work week structure is negotiable.
