This journey is creating exciting career opportunities - If you would like to contribute to the important mahi we do, nau mai, haere mai.This Kaiawhina role is a part-time (4 days a week - days can be negotiated) permanent position based in Papamoa, Mount Maunganui, Welcome Bay and surroundings.Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunityThe mahi of our Kaiawhina supports the growth of healthy pepi and tamariki, confident whanau and connected communities by working with whanau Maori to identify and enhance their strengths as well as supporting self-determined Pae Ora goals.
This mahi involves applying matauranga Maori alongside health promotion, health education, and prevention concepts.This might involve providing advice which is commonly associated with Whanau Awhina Plunket's service such as the introduction of solids or supporting breastfeeding for those that choose this path or settling to sleep.
The mahi of a Kaiawhina also provides for whanau cultural needs – supporting whanau to build connections and confidence in their Maoritanga through for instance the introduction of waiata and purakau sessions.Where there is a need, Kaiawhina can work with multiple agencies and specialists – social workers, food banks, other community groups and our wider Whanau Awhina services to respond to the needs of our people.Pay rates for Kaiawhina are between $54,933 ($27.80/hr) - $63,012 ($31.89/hr) per hour depending on experience.He korero mou | About youThis role involves supporting whanau who might be at different stages of their haerenga to incorporate Te Ao Maori principles and values into how they raise their tamariki, this might involve introducing Maori models of health or connecting whanau with local iwi providers and services.You will be a warm, confident people person who adopts a whakawhanaungatanga approach to building connections.
A background in health promotion, working in a Kaupapa Maori or kohanga reo setting would be advantageous; however, we will provide you with the training you need.Above all else, you will bring with you a desire to support whanau and the community we serve.
