Waiaroha Heretaunga Water Discovery Centre (Waiaroha) is the Hastings District Council water storage and learning centre facility, which opened in central Hastings in 2023. The facility has been developed in partnership with and expert consultation from Hira Huata, Ngati Kahungunu ki Heretaunga. Waiaroha will: Deliver safe, secure, sustainable drinking water infrastructure and a back-up water supply for Hastings residents. Inform and inspire public awareness of our use, care, and understanding of wai. And in doing so, develop, drive, deliver, evaluate and report public engagement programmes to ensure positive experiences for Waiaroha audiences, which encourage participation and life-long learning. Waiaroha has been designed as a visitor learning centre with outdoor and indoor spaces for interactive and hands-on learning open to the public. The purpose of this position is to manage the day-to-day operations at the Waiaroha Water Discover Centre, and lead the team at Waiaroha to deliver outstanding visitor experiences and educational opportunities. Ou wheako – about you: To be successful in this role you will have Appropriate tertiary qualifications and or equivalent experience in an educational/visitor experience learning situation. Experience in planning, managing and delivery of visitor experience and customer service Demonstrated staff leadership Competence using a range of IT programmes, applications and hardware. Organisational skills – ability to research, plan and set objectives, review, meet deadlines and delegate appropriately Understanding and commitment to Equal Educational Opportunities and an awareness and understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi. Previous engagement/networking experience with marae, hapu, iwi and or Maori entities.
