We have an opportunity for two experienced policy managers to join Te Puni Kokiri, bringing their leadership and policy skills to this forward-thinking Puni.
Te whai wahitanga | The opportunity The Policy Puni is strategy led, and results driven. It provides advice directly to the Government and Government agencies on strategic policy issues, and evidence-based approaches to improve Maori wellbeing and support the advancement of iwi and Maori development. Responsible for ensuring effective management of a policy team, you will be leading and contributing to a policy shop that can inform and influence the development of Maori Public policy practice across the whole of the Ministry. We are leading policy thinking across the public service on the roles and obligations agencies have to, for and with Maori as citizens and as members of their whanau, hapu and iwi through the adoption of Te Tautuhi-o-Rongo, our Maori Public Policy Framework. You will keep progressing this important work. More broadly, and alongside this you will be responsible for coordinating the implementation of our te ao Maori policy frameworks based on and in service of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and whanau led change. At a local level, the role has an important connection to our regional network and policy nodes with iwi, hapu and whanau. So working with colleagues, and iwi and hapu and Maori organisations will be essential. The role will also support and monitor the provision of quality policy advice from across the agency, helping to ensure Te Puni Kokiri are exemplars of modern public policy practice in Aotearoa New Zealand. Adaptable, Policy Managers in Te Puni Kokiri shift with priorities and kaupapa areas as and when required. The appointment range for this role is between $153,574 and $191,967 per annum and the salary will be determined based on the successful candidate's skills and experience. Minimum Requirements We are looking for someone with experience of managing and mentoring a team, is motivated to help others succeed and fosters an open, collaborative environment where all kaimahi can share knowledge and contribute. Skills we are looking for include: Leadership experience, particularly with a government policy team.Sound understanding of the machinery of government, and the political environment Te Puni Kokiri operates in.Experienced working history with Treaty Settlement Accords.Management of an international policy work programme in the past is ideal.Possess the core behaviours and applied skills required of a successful policy manager. Including responsive and adaptive, policy analysis, evidence and insights, and monitoring and evaluation.Ability to analyse large, complex policy issues and readily grasp and synthesise the ideas, analysis and advice produced by others.Evidence of managing multiple, complex projects concurrently.Understanding of, and experience in progressive and public value procurement.Relationship management and influencing skills.
