PROJECT INFORMATIONThe project "Policy Dialogue and Public Diplomacy Facility for New Zealand" aims to deepen European Union relations with Aotearoa New Zealand through enhanced engagement and outreach in key domains.The European Union and New Zealand are close like-minded partners.
Over the past two years, EU-New Zealand relations have been dynamic and productive, notably with the adoption of a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) that entered into force in 2024 and with New Zealand becoming the first global partner to Horizon Europe in 2023.There is scope for activities around policy dialogue and public diplomacy around thematic areas including democratic resilience, trade & investment, Horizon Europe, Pacific, space, digital, security & defence, climate as well as Antarctica.The EU foresees opportunities to deepen dialogue and enhance public diplomacy efforts with a broad range of stakeholders, including Government, private sector and businesses, academia, civil society organisations, cultural institutes, think tanks, trade associations, media, EU Member States, Chambers of Commerce and youth/early career individuals.The EU Delegation represents the European Union in New Zealand.
It serves as the focal point for the EU's presence in New Zealand, works in close cooperation with EU Member States to coordinate EU-level policies and develops political, economic, trade, research, environmental and cultural cooperation with New Zealand.2.
PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENTThe European Union Delegation to New Zealand is seeking a Junior Social Media Expert for the above-mentioned project.
A work plan will be developed to raise the engagement and visibility of the EU in New Zealand, and to promote a positive perception of the EU in line with the Delegation's priorities.
The expert will craft social media products for the EU, design and implement social media campaigns, and evaluate the reach and impact of the EU's social media presence in New Zealand.This is an entry-level opportunity for someone with an interest in international relations and global affairs to use their expertise in content creation, digital marketing and data analysis to drive the EU's impact and reach.
The expert will be required to adopt a flexible approach, based on regular communication and coordination with the EU Ambassador and EU Delegation as well as to report to the Team Leader.
The candidate will also remain open to accommodating new priorities or commitments that may arise.3.
ACTIVITY / TASKS TO BE ADDRESSED BY EXPERTThe Junior Social Media expert will work closely with the EU Ambassador and Delegation staff to implement a comprehensive social media strategy across multiple platforms and will report to the Project Leader of the above-mentioned contract.
All communications products will ensure consistent use of agreed EU branding.
Thematic technical inputs will be based on direction from EU Ambassador and Delegation.
Content will be based on the EU's priorities in New Zealand.The expert will draft social media products for both the EU Ambassador and EU Delegation social media platforms on a regular basis.
Content will communicate key messages, tailored for the audience targeted across different platforms.The expert may be tasked to prepare promotional and/or outreach material, ensure regular and coordinated outreach to targeted audiences (specifically through social media engagement), organise campaigns, newsletters, podcasts, or other similar activities to increase awareness and visibility of undertaken interventions.4.
OUTPUTSThe expected outputs of the assignment are:Develop audio-visual and multimedia content, such as photos, short (phone) videos and infographics for LinkedIn, Instagram, X and other platforms;Develop pre-agreed visibility materials for EU Delegation's online platforms or events (e.g.
invitations/programmes/banners);In the lead-up to public events, engage the target audience, and drive attendance;Cover events where the Delegation is active, and create short and engaging content pieces to showcase the event on social media;Develop metrics on the reach of the events and the social media content, and compile and analyse feedback from the participants;Quarterly reports on activities, detailing metrics, obstacles and possible lessons learnt/recommendations.5.
EXPERT PROFILE:Qualifications and skills:Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, digital media, international relations or related field;Experience in digital marketing focusing on strategy development, content creation and channel management;Strong communication, presentation and organisational skills;Certifications in digital marketing, SEO/SEM or content marketing desirable;Fluency in English (C2/native English speaker).General experience:The role would suit a recent graduate;Work experience gained in some of the following fields: public diplomacy, social media management; communication;Strategic understanding of communication: target audience segmentation, message definition, selection of channels, impact;Ability to keep your cool and sense of humour in high pressure and time sensitive environments.Specific experience:Proficiency in managing all aspects of social media channels, email campaigns, website operations (development and maintenance know-how), content planning, community management and scheduled posting;Good knowledge and understanding of EU;Experience working for a public institution desirable;Excellent speaking, drafting and editing skills in English;Ability in te reo Maori, and knowledge of te ao Maori an advantage.6.
DURATION AND LOCATION OF THE ASSIGNMENTThe total number of working days allocated to this assignment is anticipated to be up to a maximum of 180 working days during the period from February 2025 to February 2026 at a frequency and duration appropriate to the project's needs and as agreed with Team Leader.After completion, the assignment could be renewed up until the end of the project implementation (1 December 2027) upon joint agreement of all parties involved.The EU respects and encourages diversity in the workplace, and we encourage people of all backgrounds to apply for this position.
