Itinerant Teachers of Music [Attached Unit]
The Forte Unit of Itinerant Teachers of Music [ITM] (based at Te Puna Wai o Waipapa – Hagley College) provide students with high quality music tuition within participating schools across the Canterbury Region.
We are seeking three (3) fixed term qualified, highly effective and inspiring ITM Teachers for 2025. [one year]
Teachers are required for individual, small group and ensemble tuition to NCEA Level 3. Some occasional extra-curricular duties/travel may be required.
Successful applicants will be trained, qualified, registered teachers; able to travel independently to rural schools as required (costs reimbursed). Piano skills an advantage.
Positions:
(1) Voice – Part-time (incl Choir)
(2) Flute – Part-time
(3) Single reed woodwind – Part-time (Clarinet, saxophone, bands)
Applicants must have:
Skills and experience in teaching a wide range of styles.
A good understanding of the Music curriculum (Years 9-13).
The ability to assist with NCEA performance preparation and assessment.
The ability to direct both large and small vocal ensembles.
Experience teaching individual and group lessons.
Flexibility within repertoire and a willingness to work with the varying requirements of a diverse range of music departments.
Experience with Musical Theatre, Maori, Pasifika and/or contemporary repertoire would be an advantage.
The successful applicant needs to have current NZ teacher registration (preferred) or a Limited Authority to Teach (LAT).
Valid NZ Driver Licence and a reliable vehicle are required, as the role includes some travel to schools outside the Christchurch metropolitan area. Travel expenses will be provided.
All Itinerant Music Teachers regularly engage in collaborative team meetings with a focus on Professional development including a current focus on Tikanga and te reo Maori.
