He angitutanga: The opportunity
You will be protecting our environment and community by investigating complaints relating to complex breaches and at times, serious offences and holding those responsible to account. No two days are the same as you investigate a wide variety of issues including (but not limited to): breaches of the Building Act for unconsented building works; breaches of the Resource Management Act such as a breach against the Auckland Unitary Plan; removal or damage of our protected trees; and pollution incidents, and serious breaches of the Auckland Council Bylaws making sure offenders are identified and quality investigations are undertaken. We often achieve this through a multi-agency approach working closely with internal and external partners. The role will require you to prepare cases for enforcement action up to and including giving evidence in court.
This is a permanent full-time position, working 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday with on-call work as required.

Investigative and regulatory compliance skills are key to this role and will include higher-level enforcement action including experience in prosecution. You will also need to have highly developed written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate complex information to a range of people. A natural self-starter, you will be able to effectively manage competing demands on your time while ensuring your work is of a high standard.
Investigative experience is preferable but significant relevant regulatory compliance experience will be considered. A tertiary qualification in a relevant field e.g. Risk / Compliance Management, Resource Management, Building and Construction, Law, Science will be beneficial, as will knowledge of relevant statutory documents, the RMA, Building Act 2004, and other relevant legislation.
You are a strong team player, able to demonstrate a solid understanding of relevant legislation. A current full clean driver's licence is essential and if successful you will be warranted by Auckland Council allowing you to enter premises and inspect breaches or offences.

Salary range: $74,000 to $91,000 per annum depending on experience
