Auckland Council's International Relations team has an opportunity for a fixed-term, full-time Advisor to join the team until October 2025. This role will be based in the Auckland city centre with the flexibility to work from home or a Council Hub.
This team is a leading unit fostering Auckland Council's international cooperation and understanding. We open doors for national and international political leaders, policymakers and businesses to engage in relationships that benefit our regions, communities and cultures, and we are looking for a knowledgeable International Relations Advisor to join the team.
Reporting to the Manager of International Relations, this role is critical for positioning Auckland as a competitive and connected city on the world stage. You will leverage civic, economic and cultural activities to collaborate with key stakeholders and partners.
You could expect to work on:
Planning and delivery activities such as inbound and outbound visits, events and meetings
Contributing to maintaining or enhancing the city's international relationships
Engaging with our partners through formal sister-city relations, time-bound strategic alliances, networks and forums
Continuous oversight of international relations and activities of other council units, local organisations, and central government diplomatic offices, providing support and influence as needed
To excel in this role, you must be politically neutral and possess strong cultural awareness and political insight.
You will likely have experience working within large, complex, and potentially political organisations. Your skill set will include strong verbal and written communication abilities, resilience, self-motivation, and the capacity to perform well in high-pressure environments.
We are specifically looking for:
Tertiary qualification in politics, public relations, international relations, communication, project management (or a relevant discipline)
At least five years' experience in roles involving international relations, relationship management, project, or event management.
Foreign language ability is desirable
Auckland Council is one of the largest local authorities in the South Pacific providing essential services and facilities to more than 1.6 million people. We are progressive socially, culturally and environmentally while we work towards creating change.
In return for your hard work, you can expect a flexible and supportive work environment.
You'll have access to a range of fantastic Auckland Council benefits, including discounted Leisure Centre membership and a range of other partnership discounts!
