Intern/ Undergraduate Mechanical Engineer - Sumner Park Finn Biogas is a Brisbane-based engineering company that designs and builds biogas plants throughout Australia, New Zealand, the Pacific, and Asia. We work with clients from agriculture, industrial food and beverage production, and municipal backgrounds, to make their waste work for them whether for compliance, energy or resource recovery.

About the role
We work across a multitude of projects relating to anaerobic digestion, landfill, composting and waste-to-energy. The role will play a key role in supporting the project teams to deliver end-to-end projects from concept design & feasibility assessment through to detailed design, procurement, construction, commissioning and handover; as well as delivering engineering consulting/advisory on a variety of projects.
You will be working with our engineering and fabrication team, assisting with a variety of hands-on tasks relating to our project workload at any given time. In the role you will be required to undertake:
Basic fabrication tasks + assembly of equipment
Assistance with on-site installation of equipment/ plant
Basic engineering tasks to support other technical staff as required: calculations, report writing and documentation.
This position is located at Sumner Park, ~25 minutes from Brisbane city centre and close to amenities like Mt Ommaney shopping centre and a number of cafes. Access to the office is convenient from the Centenary Highway or adjacent bikeway.

Please note: this is a hands-on role that requires the successful candidate to engage in extensive manual work and fabrication tasks.
Essential Skills and Experience
An ability to work independently as part of a small team and communicate with both technical and non-technical staff
Experience working with a variety of hand tools and power tools, including angle grinders, welders (MIG/ TIG) and drills etc.
Ability and willingness to work in workshop and site conditions, which are hot, noisy and hard work
Strong mechanical aptitude + ability to read and interpret technical drawings.
Desired Skills and Experience
In addition to the above, our ideal candidate will have:
Experience in a similar industry – fabrication, construction, engineering.
Mechanical or process engineering experience and skills, such as the ability to use CAD (SolidEdge/ AutoCAD), develop calculation and documentation.
Whilst project dependent, there may be some domestic and international travel required for short periods.
