Key Responsibilities: • Conduct thorough quality inspections of cherries during the packing process, ensuring they meet industry standards and specific customer requirements.
• Monitor and assess the appearance, size, colour, firmness, and overall quality of cherries.
• Work closely with orchard staff to ensure team is aware of packing quality and results.
• Maintain accurate records of inspections, non-compliance, and corrective actions taken during the packing process.
• Provide feedback to the packhouse team on any quality issues and work with them to resolve problems promptly.
• Conduct regular checks to ensure compliance with food safety and hygiene standards in the packhouse.
• Stay updated on industry trends and customer expectations regarding cherry quality.
• Ensure traceability and proper labelling of packed products in accordance with market requirements.
Qualifications & Skills: • Proven experience in quality control within a packhouse or similar setting, preferably in the cherry or fresh produce industry.
• Excellent attention to detail and the ability to identify small defects or quality issues.
• Ability to work independently and impartially, ensuring an objective approach to quality assessments.
• Good communication skills to liaise with orchard staff and management.
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced and high-pressure environment, particularly during peak packing periods.
• Strong record-keeping and reporting skills.
Physical Requirements: • Ability to stand for extended periods during inspections.
• Capability to lift and handle boxes of cherries.
• Comfortable working in a packhouse environment, which may involve cold temperatures and high activity levels.
Work Schedule: • Full-time, seasonal position during the cherry packing season.
