Our client is seeking an Independent Advisor to join the newly established Committee.
About the Role As an advisor, you will work alongside the nine elected members of the Council and mana whenua representatives.
This role requires strong specialist knowledge in human resources, executive recruitment, and performance management.
An understanding of local government processes and operations will be beneficial.
Key Responsibilities Recruitment & Appointment: Advise on the recruitment, selection, and appointment processes for the Chief Executive, ensuring these are in line with best practices and legal requirements.Performance & Remuneration: Provide independent guidance on the annual reviews of the Chief Executive's performance and remuneration, making recommendations to the Council.Key Performance Metrics: Assist in the establishment, monitoring, and review of Key Result Areas (KRAs) and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).Mentoring & Support: Ensure the Chief Executive receives regular feedback, mentoring, and support through informal quarterly meetings.Training & Development: Advise on relevant training and development opportunities for the Chief Executive to enhance performance and leadership.Employment Agreement Management: Including negotiating any necessary amendments and making recommendations to the Council.You will also be expected to provide advice and support on extraordinary committee meetings or workshops as required.
Meetings Scheduled Meetings:March/April: Interim review and setting KRAs for the next financial yearOctober: Final performance review.Additional Meetings: Ad-hoc meetings or workshops may be held as needed.Remuneration & Contract Fixed Fee: A fixed contract fee for the two scheduled meetings per year.Hourly Rate: An agreed hourly rate will apply for any additional meetings or workshops outside of the scheduled meetings.Travel Reimbursement: Reasonable travel costs will be reimbursed, including the standard IRD mileage rate.Contract Term: The initial contract is for a nine-month period, running until the local council elections in October 2024, with the possibility of a review and extension depending on future needs.Qualifications & Skills To be considered for this role, you will ideally have:
A strong background in human resources, executive recruitment, and performance management.Experience working with senior executives or advising governance bodies in local government or similar sectors.An understanding of local government legislation and processes (preferred but not required).Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to provide clear, independent advice in a governance context.Sounds like you?
