Fantastic opportunity to deliver human factors investigation servicesWork across air, rail, and marine investigationsExcellent career roleThe role We're seeking a Human Factors Investigator to join the specialist services team within transport sector accident investigations. You'll bring your human factors expertise to the team, developing appropriate guidance, tools and resources to the team to ensure human factors is integrated to all investigative work. You'll also work as a human factors investigator across all three transport modes – air, rail, and marine, deployed to accident sites and providing your expertise throughout the investigation.
About the organisation The Transport Accident Investigation Commission (TAIC) investigates significant aviation, rail, and marine accidents and incidents with a view to avoiding similar occurrences in the future. Multi-disciplinary teams investigate and analyse the circumstances of these occurrences, supporting the Commission to consider the facts, and make findings and recommendations to improve transport safety, rather than to ascribe blame.
Skilled investigators, led by an Investigator in Charge attend accident sites, often in remote locations, to gather evidence for each particular investigation within these three transport modes.
The Commission has set a visionary goal of "No Repeat Accidents – Ever!"
Skills and experience We're seeking a human factors expert for this role. You'll have a strong human factors background, both in academic qualifications and able to bring credible human factors experience to the role.
In addition we'd ideally like to see:
experience developing human factors guidance and tools, as well as practical implementation experiencetransport sector experienceexcellent communication skills – and the ability to convey complex and technical information and influence others who may not be technical subject matter expertsenergy, vigour, and the ability to work collaboratively across teams.As this is an investigative position, you will be required to attend accident sites, therefore a good degree of fitness and the ability to pass a full medical is required.
While you might not meet all of the requirements, a strong human factors background – both qualification and experience – is required, so we are keen to hear from human factors experts working within public and private sectors, and academia.
