About the role
Join our team as a Housekeeper at Nelson Hospital and play an essential role in ensuring our healthcare facility operates to the highest standards.
As a Housekeeper, you will be a vital part of our hospital services team, helping to maintain a clean and hygienic environment that supports patient care and safety.
For casual positions, you will have the flexibility to work as needed, covering shifts to support the team.
For permanent part-time positions, you will have a set schedule.
0.2FTE in Ward 9: working 16 hours a fortnight, hours are between 3:00pm - 7:00pm Sat-Sun
0.75FTE in Gynae/Lab and theatres: working 60 hours a fortnight, hours are between 5:00pm to 11:30pm Monday-Friday
About the Team/Service/Location
Our Housekeeping team is an essential part of Nelson Hospital, supporting infection prevention and ensuring patient and staff safety.
By providing efficient, high-quality housekeeping services, we create a welcoming environment for patients and their families while maintaining rigorous hygiene standards critical to healthcare.
The team takes pride in offering excellent internal and external customer service.

About you:
Your responsibilities will include:
Cleaning and preparing patient rooms and communal areas to infection prevention standards after patient discharge.
Cleaning operating theatres according to the hospital's hygiene standards and protocols.
Managing cleaning schedules and prioritising tasks efficiently.
Performing tea runs and ensuring patients have access to refreshments.
Supporting the hospital's overall infection control measures by adhering to strict cleaning protocols.
Responding to urgent cleaning requests and adapting to the fast-paced healthcare environment.
Assisting with additional housekeeping tasks as required to ensure smooth hospital operations.
Skills and experience
A strong work ethic and a commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness; full training will be provided.
Excellent time management and organisational skills.
Attention to detail and the ability to follow established cleaning protocols.
Good communication skills and a professional attitude.
The ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Competency with te ao Maori, tikanga, and te reo Maori, or a commitment to starting your journey and taking ownership of your learning and growth.
Experience in projects/initiatives which give effect to Te Tiriti principles and frameworks, and the application of Matauranga Maori and Kaupapa Maori approaches, particularly as they apply in healthcare settings.
