Horticulture Technician

BOP Hort Management Services are currently looking to hire a Horticulture Technician for our business in Hastings, Hawkes Bay.
General Responsibilities: Collection of soil samples, arrange testing and plan fertilizer program in consultation with the owners/orchard Managers.
Assist in the development of new planting, fertilising, and harvesting methods to optimise land usage for production targets (e.g., opposing female vs. strip male).
Supervise seasonal teams to ensure work is carried out to an agreed specification and within the target time frame.
Compliance with health and safety procedures.
Technical Responsibilities: Undertake pest disease monitoring to identify harmful micro-organisms (insects, parasites, fungi, bacteria, weeds) and assist in the development of control methods.
Ensure all staff adhere to PSA and hygiene protocols throughout seasonal activities.
Examine young plants and plant materials prior to planting/grafting to ensure they are free from pests/diseases that may jeopardise vine health.
Pest and Disease Monitoring.
Plant Husbandry, Irrigation and Fertiliser plans.
Compliance Responsibilities: Monitor and audit control procedures to ensure compliance with Global GAP & GRASP standards.
Prepare the documentation required for GAP and GRASP compliance.
Data Collection Responsibilities: Collect and collate bud/fruit counts to inform thinning decisions and minimise quality issues.
Collect and test fruit samples for quality, size and purity to inform harvest decisions.
Requirements: Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and public holidays.
Experience of 1 year in the horticulture industry is necessary.

Compensation: The pay rate will be $26 to $30 per hour, with a minimum guaranteed 30 hours per week.
