Job Description Job Description This is a combined role that encompasses both hide processing and wastewater treatment.
The Wastewater Treatment and Hide Processor/ Tanner Operator plays a key part in ensuring that the tannery is operating effectively. You will work with the Tannery Manager to ensure the processing and treatment of any effluent is completed to the appropriate standards, and the maintenance of the plant and equipment is carried out in a timely and cost-effective manner alongside implementing new systems when appropriate.
You will also be responsible for the processing of hides from raw state to a usable product. You will work with the Tannery Manager to ensure that hides are processed up to the desired standard, ensure tanning equipment is kept in good condition, notifying the engineering team of any issues in a timely manner and ensure chemicals are kept and used in the appropriate manner adhering to site and legislative safety standards. Full training in this role will be provided to the right candidate.
The ideal candidate will have the relevant experience in wastewater treatment and be willing to learn the hide processing / tanning side of the job.
In the wastewater treatment area, you will be responsible for:
· Ensuring the effective and efficient operation of all Wastewater Treatment systems
· Completing general maintenance and cleanliness of treatment and processing systems.
· Ensuring compliance is adhered to with relevant regulatory requirements.
· Recording and reporting of daily key performance indicators associated with treatment and processing systems.
In the hide processing / tanning area you will be responsible for:
· Examine products for defects to ensure adherence to quality standards.
· Mix and apply chemicals according to established formulae.
· Prepare solutions to clean, dehair, pickle hides.
This role is on a rotating shift basis which involves a two-shift structure over seven days a week.
To ensure a safe workplace, AFFCO engage in pre- employment medical checks and drug screening. By applying for this role, you agree to undertake the necessary pre-employment screening. Please ensure you provide a current ID (such as a Drivers Licence or Passport).
Qualifications The successful applicant will demonstrate the following:
· Relevant experience; preferably in a wastewater environment. Experience working in a tannery or engineering environment would also be desirable.
· The relevant tertiary/trade qualifications and/or Wastewater Treatment Operator Certificate will be advantageous. · Organisational skills and the capability to cope with a variety of priorities and demands.
· Be able to communicate effectively and work well within a team.
· Be flexible and able to work under pressure.
· Be self-motivated with excellent communication skills.
· Have a basic knowledge of chemicals and process control procedures, although for the right candidate full training will be provided.
· A diploma certificate in either Fellmongery or Tanning from LASRA would be advantageous.
· Good knowledge of HWSA and RM Act
