Job Description Due to a team member changing their career industry, we are looking for a Herd Manager to join our team of 6 at Woodstock Tussock Farm.
Approximately 20km from Oxford and 70km from Christchurch Airport, the farm location is at the footsteps of the southern alps which is the door way to adventure.
This farm peak milks 1,320 cows through a 60 bale internal rotary.
Backed up against the foothills of Canterbury overlooking the Waimakariri River, the dairy is mostly irrigated with only centre pivots.
The successful applicant will be tasked with carrying out duties individually including but not limited to setting up the milking shed, milking, and shed hygiene, setting up and taking down break fences, shifting effluent, identifying animal health symptoms and treating with different remedies, calving cows and identifying milk fever plus calving and mating duties.
The tasks on this farm are varying!
The successful applicant will need to have a clean driver's license, be able to pass a pre-employment drug test, and be currently living in New Zealand.
Remuneration is negotiable but based on a total package of $82,500 including accommodation.
Training on the job will be provided through on-farm training and PrimaryITO, so if you are looking to progress in the dairy industry, this could be the role for you.
The manager on the farm will be your direct report, who works alongside the operations manager and manager of the neighboring dairy farm.
The farm is part of a total operation milking 2,900 cows between two dairy sheds and large-scale runoff.
The farm has an in-house cook who provides hot lunches during weekdays!
The roster is 5 on 2 off for the whole season in an effort to cap work hours to 100 hours per fortnight.
Milking frequency is twice a day until the end of summer when it can change to 3 in 2 milking frequency.
Accommodation Accommodation is negotiable for either a 2 and a half bedroom cottage with a fire (wood provided) or shared accommodation.

The shed contains automatic cup removers as well as the cows being fitted with Allflex collars, monitoring cow health throughout the day.
There are 7 centre pivots that irrigate the majority of the farm with some dryland areas.
The farm works alongside the neighboring farm that runs 1,500 cows.
