BioGiene provides a specialized Food Processing facility cleaning and sanitation service, delivering our partners improved value, and brand security throughout New Zealand and Australia.
About the Role
As a Health & Safety Manager for an industrial/food processing clean-up business, you will be responsible for ensuring strict compliance with Health & Safety protocols and legislation in the operational hygiene function of the largest Food Processing facilities nationwide. You will be working in a multi-skilled role and be exposed to specialty cleaning equipment and processes. The role is based in Christchurch and would entail regular travel to sites across New Zealand. The hours are flexible to include engagement and oversight of night shift operations.
Main Responsibilities include:
Drive a strong Health & Safety culture within the business and ensure all Health & Safety Policies are practiced and adhered to.
Continuously review H&S and injury management compliance through all avenues, inclusive but not limited to – health and safety laws and legislation, ACC and common law liability, and critical management principles, etc.
Identify and evaluate workplace hazards and unsafe practices by providing detailed principles of their identification and analysis.
Ensure legal compliance through all safety avenues relating to manuals, work instructions, risk assessments, etc.
Implementation and facilitation of audit and business controls that illustrate Health & Safety practices and support internal and external reporting obligations.
Conduct internal audits across BioGiene to ensure the early adoption of Health & Safety principles, proactively drive safe performance, and effectively reduce the number of health & safety non-conformances and corrective actions.
Develop and manage a KPI and dashboard reporting framework that quantifies the effectiveness and efficiency of strategic and operational Health & Safety policies and procedures.
Support the development, implementation, and ongoing maintenance of each site's integrated management system and manuals (including HACCP, GMP, internal audit system, document control, and regulatory compliance).
Support in the monitoring and management of audit standards to ensure all sites within businesses are always "audit ready".
Skills and Experience Required:
A deep understanding of Health & Safety (practice and legislation), Risk Management, and the proven ability to implement processes to reduce, substitute, and eliminate hazards.
New Zealand Certificate in Workplace Health and Safety Practice - Level 4 or higher
A high level of professionalism, maturity, and a 'can do' attitude to partake in the variety of tasks within this role.
Can work under pressure and adhere to deadlines.
Experience in engaging teams of people from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
Strong attention to detail.
Well-presented and able to communicate in both verbal and written formats.
Computer literate and have a good command of Microsoft Office.
Experience in engaging and coordinating with site management and staff in Abattoirs, Food Manufacturing, or Industrial Cleaning will be highly regarded.
Having sound knowledge and training on First Aid would be highly regarded, but not essential.
