We are stepping up the capability within our Health, Safety and Wellbeing team. As a people leader this role will work closely with our Executive Team and Senior Leaders to enable a refreshed and revised HSW strategy and way of working to be realised and embedded across Environment Canterbury, to achieve aligned organisational objectives. 
Whether it's an office-based support role, reviewing policy and strategy, resource consent planning, or out and about in the regions, seas, and rivers - we recognise and value everyone's collective knowledge and their contribution and it's our goal to ensure we keep everyone safe and all our people go home safely to their families every day. 
More about the role: Lead the development & implementation of health, safety, and wellbeing policies & proceduresCollaborate across the business to identify & manage risks, & ensure compliance with health & safety regulationsProvide expert advice & training to support a proactive safety cultureMonitor workplace safety & health conditions, including conducting regular audits & investigationsFoster open communication & feedback around health & safety practicesPromote employee wellness initiatives & programs that support a healthy work-life balanceStay updated with the latest health & safety practices & implement new strategies to continually improve our workplaceContribute toward our effective, strong, and valued relationship with all Papatipu Runanga within the Canterbury rohe and Te Runanga o Ngai TahuWith a lens across the business, you'll assess, lead, and manage critical risks across Environment Canterbury whilst ensuring compliance and all HSW obligations are being met. 
You'll have achieved a tertiary qualification in Health & Safety Management or similar and have a proven background in supporting or influencing through educational formats. You'll be very familiar with the NZ health and safety regulations. You'll enjoy the coaching and mentoring aspect that connects you with Senior Leaders identifying critical risks across the organisation and ideally, you'll be well-versed in regulatory and timely reporting. 
You may already be a people leader and be comfortable with group presentations, engagement, mentoring, and training and you'll be a natural collaborator, capable of working with multi-layered organisations, including cross-functional teams - where you're able to connect with and influence behaviour.
