As a Health Protection Officer, you will have a good balance of both office and field-based work. You will have experience working with councils, various industries, and the community to help manage and monitor various aspects of public health including communicable disease investigation, border health, liquor licensing and built environments. Addressing health inequalities for Maori and Pacific peoples is an important aspect of this role, so you will need a good understanding of how Te Tiriti o Waitangi should be applied in your mahi and be comfortable working with and alongside local Iwi and hapu to help them achieve their aspirations. It is essential that you have excellent communication skills, are naturally inquisitive and comfortable working both alone and in a team. Good risk assessment and priority setting skills are essential. You must be available to work a rostered 24-hour on-call system and have a current driver's licence.
