Health Protection Officer, 0.8 – 1.0 FTE, Permanent
This role sits within the NPHS team in Taranaki but works as part of our regional NPHS Te Manawa Taki team.
As a Health Protection Officer, you will have a good balance of both office and field-based work. You will have experience working with councils, various industries, and the community to help manage and monitor various aspects of public health including communicable disease investigation, border health, liquor licensing and built environments.
Addressing health inequalities for Maori and Pacific peoples is an important aspect of this role, so you will need a good understanding of how Te Tiriti o Waitangi should be applied in your mahi and be comfortable working with and alongside local Iwi and hapu to help them achieve their aspirations.

You will have a Bachelor of Health Science or another qualification described in the Ministry of Health's Criteria for Appointment of Public Health Statutory Officers.
It is essential that you have excellent communication skills, are naturally inquisitive and comfortable working both alone and in a team.
Good risk assessment and priority setting skills are essential. You must be available to work a rostered 24-hour on-call system and have a current driver's licence.
To be considered for this role, you must be currently designated as a Health Protection Officer or eligible for designation.
You must have permanent residency or a valid long-term working visa to be considered for this position.
