About the Role Stratford District Council is recruiting for a Health and Safety/Civil Defence Advisor to join the team.
You will be responsible for all health and safety systems, processes and procedures to support the health and safety and wellbeing of staff in alignment with the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015.
You will also work closely with our contractors to ensure our health and safety requirements are adhered to, ensuring the safety of our community while working on council activities.
Emergency Management will be led by this role to meet council's requirements under the CDEM Act 2002 and ensure the 4 R's (readiness, response, recovery and reduction) are in place for our District should it be required.
You will maintain the staff database and council's emergency operations centre, participate in all relevant civil defence advisory groups and pro-actively collaborate with the Taranaki Emergency Management Office and neighbouring councils.
This position is full time (40 hours per week) and will be located at the Stratford District Council, Miranda Street, Stratford; however, flexible working arrangements may be available in time.
The salary range for this position is $80,000- $95,000 per annum.

About You You will have a relevant tertiary qualification or up to five years experience in a similar role, including experience and knowledge of current New Zealand legislation relating to health and safety and civil defence.
You have the ability to plan, organise and manage situations - sometimes at short notice.
You will work well as an individual but enjoy being part of a close knit team and you will thrive in motivating and engaging your fellow staff members with your health and safety/emergency management passions.
Understanding of the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 and experience in health and safety monitoring, inspections, audit procedures and investigations are essential.
