About the opportunity
An exciting twelve month fixed term opportunity has come about for a Health & Safety Advisor supporting our Whareroa site in South Taranaki. Reporting to the Regional H&S Manager, you will get the opportunity to develop your health and safety career with plenty of variety and challenge. Whareroa is one of our largest sites. Along with a 7-hectare distribution centre and 1000 employees, our site boasts a total of 11 plants which includes four milk powder plants, two cheese plants, a cream plant, an anhydrous milk fat plant plus a whey protein and casein plant. We have the capability to process an impressive 14 million liters of milk per day in peak season.
As a Health & Safety Advisor, you will directly liaise with staff and guide on best practice health and safety. You will work towards the continuous improvement of our health and safety capability and support the pro-active management of risks and incident investigations. In this role, you will enjoy working autonomously and have the confidence to make decisions on the fly.
Key responsibilities include:
Regular operational engagement with our people across site to understand what support is required and understand how work is done.
Identifying opportunities for improvement and making recommendations to ensure good H&S practices, relationships, advice/support of safety concerns.
Facilitating and/or supporting risk assessments with operational teams.
Conducting incident investigation/learning reviews on high potential incidents.
Coaching and supporting operations on health and safety related frameworks.
Analyzing trends of known and emerging risks.
Ensuring the H&S management systems are up to date and regulatory changes are adhered to.
Undertaking ongoing effectivity and verification checks of health and safety systems.

To make an impact in this role you will have:
Strong interpersonal skills.
Ability to instill trust across a diverse workforce and establish meaningful relationships with stakeholders.
Strong technical health and safety expertise ideally from a manufacturing or high-risk environment.
Exposure to process safety.
Preferably hold a relevant health and safety certificate or diploma (NEBOSH or equivalent).
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment plus being adaptable to change and ambiguity.
