If you love agriculture and teaching, have a passion for developing your ideas and engaging with a like-minded rural community, then we have an opportunity for you. We are looking for someone with genuine experience and the potential to contribute significantly to the character of our school, someone prepared to go the extra mile for our students.
Tawera Rural College is an agricultural department of our school with high engagement in all year levels. We run a Primary ITO trades academy, which also supports neighbouring schools, and have great support from our farming community. We are now looking for a new Head of Department to guide and grow us. The successful candidate will have the support of current staff (one full-time teacher, two part-time tutors, and an administrator) who are well connected and passionate about their work. Tawera Rural College is a prestigious department which has the full support of our Development Manager as well as the senior team.
As a semi-rural school close to Christchurch, at the heart of our community, our development programme is based on a strong vision. We're in the midst of PB4L, restorative practices, curriculum reform, and cultural capability development. We have 830 students, Y7–13, most of whom are very well supported from home and well connected to their school; some need us to adapt our practice to meet their needs.
Terms and conditions of employment are covered under the Secondary Teachers Collective Agreement. Overseas applicants must have current NZ residency or a valid NZ work visa, and current NZ Teacher registration; importantly, they must be able to demonstrate local competencies to be considered.
