Our work of hope tackles both the causes and effects of poverty and injustice and responds swiftly to human and natural disasters. We promote advocacy and education for justice in New Zealand and Oceania, and we play an integral part in the worldwide Caritas network of over 160 relief, development, and social service organisations.Role Overview:Reporting to the Chief Executive (CE) and as an integral member of the management team, the Head of Justice and Peace will lead the Justice and Peace function to drive the promotion and understanding of Catholic Social Teaching, unlock the full potential and participation in Caritas advocacy and education programmes, and amplify the indigenous voice both locally and internationally. The Head of Justice and Peace will be responsible for developing and executing strategic and operational plans that raise awareness of social issues and encourage action on societal issues as they relate to justice and peace through advocacy, education, and tangata whenua partnerships.Key Responsibilities:Lead the development of advocacy and education strategies that generate community response and action to issues of justice and peace.Support the development and facilitate the process to cultivate and strengthen relationships with Te Ropu Maori and with Maori Catholic Communities.Ensure the delivery of education and promotion of justice and peace through effective and relevant teaching and learning programmes that raise awareness of issues impacting the vulnerable and poor.Oversee the design, development, and delivery of Maori-led development programmes that are informed and influenced by Catholic Social Teaching (CST), tangata whenua, and promote long-term development and sustainability.Oversee the flagship indigenous programme (indigenous voice and visibility) and build relationships with Caritas confederation whanau, especially Caritas Oceania.Strengthen the Catholic social justice network within New Zealand and internationally.Develop alliances with government, allies, and partners to promote and encourage awareness of societal issues.Support the work of CANZ identifying funding and fundraising sources and mobilising resources to meet CANZ revenue requirements.Qualifications:We are seeking an individual with an international advocacy or social justice background and extensive experience developing, leading, and driving participation in advocacy and education programme strategies, both internationally and locally, accelerating programme reach and impact in line with organisational strategy and vision. The ideal applicant will hold a relevant post-graduate tertiary qualification in Theology, Religious Education, Public Policy, or similar, and possess in-depth knowledge, understanding, and commitment to Catholic Social Teaching. Demonstrated experience building relationships and partnerships with Tangata Whenua is essential, along with an understanding and alignment with the mission of Caritas, and a strong awareness of the principles of te Tiriti o Waitangi, Te Reo Maori, and Tikanga Maori.This is a highly rewarding and challenging role protecting the dignity of marginalised people and ensuring that CANZ has a positive impact on the lives of the most vulnerable.
