We are looking for our next Head of Health, Safety and Wellbeing (HS&W) to continue on the great work already happening in the HS&W team at NZTA | Waka Kotahi.
The Head of HS&W is a strategic position, responsible for developing and executing on our HS&W Strategy and Vision. Leading a team of highly skilled HS&W professionals, together, you will champion excellence in our HS&W practices and frameworks, keeping our people and those we work with healthy and safe at all times.
As a member of the Pumanawa Tangata - People and Safety leadership team, you will be focused on leading the delivery and refinement of the HS&W strategy and roadmap and will be considered a trusted advisor on all things HS&W, overseeing any potential risks and systemic issues. A critical part of this role will be to coach, support and provide expert advice to Managers on HS&W, assisting in the growth of their HS&W skills and experience.
You will maintain strong networks and partnerships among the HS&W community so that we are up to date with best practice HS&W information and legislation, driving changes where required.
To succeed in this role you will be someone with a true passion for HS&W and leading high performing teams to support our people on their HS&W journey.

Hold tertiary Health and Safety qualifications (minimum ISOH Diploma) preferably at post-graduate level.
Strong leadership experience in workplace safety principles, ideally in a Transport or Government environment.
Knowledge of current legislation relating to Health, Safety and Wellbeing.
Demonstrated people management experience in leading high performing teams.
Demonstrated experience in risk management and influencing business practices across business groups to drive the adoption of a whole-of-organisation approach to safety.
Ability to facilitate the resolution of complex problems and drive the changes needed to create a culture of care.
Demonstrated knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an understanding of Te Ao Maori and promote tikanga and Te Reo Maori.
