About the role: As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, the Head of Health, Safety and Wellbeing (HSW) is focused on driving the high-level and strategic delivery of the organisations HSW responsibilities as defined by the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 and by Councils own Health and Safety Management System.
Through inspiring leadership and collaborative partnership building, you will ensure that the day-to-day delivery of health and safety activity ensures all kaimahi benefit from an injury and illness-free workplace, where everyone goes home safe and healthy each day.
You will also get the opportunity to create and lead our new HSW Strategy, one that supports the rapid growth of our organisation and that directs and empowers our employee experience. You will also lead the delivery of our internal Health and Safety Management System functions combined with implementing the findings of our recent Health and Safety Maturity Assessment.
Key responsibilities will include:
Lead and manage the HSW Team to ensure they are an integrated part of the organisation who work collaboratively with all other business units to deliver health, safety and wellbeing services and initiatives aligned with Selwyn District Council's (SDC) strategic objectives.Collaborate with key stakeholders, lead the development of strategies, frameworks and tools that contribute to the development of the capability our kaimahi, and support a culture that enables our kaimahi to go home safe and well each day.Lead a business partnering model that facilitates the provision of valuable health, safety and wellbeing support and advice, that educates the organisation on core processes and procedures.Lead the continuous improvement of SDC HSW processes, functions, tools, and frameworks that enable and empower individuals to perform successfully in achieving SDC's HSW goals and objectives.Ensuring that the HSW function is future proof and aligned to the needs of SDC, by continually reviewing and monitoring the needs of the organisation.Providing training and coaching to the ELT, leaders, and managers at SDC to support their growth and to ensure they feel confident in leading and managing effective HSW practices.Lead and manage health, safety, and wellbeing ensuring strategies, plans, policies, and processes that contribute to the safety and wellbeing of our kaimahi, contractors and the public, ensuring both legal compliance and more importantly that our culture is reflected in these.Enable our leaders and kaimahi to create an environment that promotes a healthy work-life balance that empowers our people to do their best work and safe and thrive.About you: We are looking for a strategic leader with a balanced eye for detail in turning strategy into action. A great communicator, someone that can present to council, governors, and our community, whilst also having the ability to engage in warm, welcoming conversation with our people.
You will have extensive experience in Health, Safety and Wellbeing, where you have worked in a large and complex organisation, leading teams to achieve organisational goals/objectives within a values-based framework.
You will also have:
